In the 18th century Chateau Brane-Cantenac bore the name of its owners "Castle Gorce".

In 1833,
with Baron Hector de Brane who is the former owner of Château Brane Mouton (Mouton Rothschild) and his son Jacques Maxime de Brane, Brane-Cantenac takes another dimension.

In 1866
Brane Cantenac was bought by the Roy family who owned Chateau d'Issan and who will run the castle until the end of World War I.

In 1925,
Mr. Léonce Recapet and his son-in-law François Lurton took over the entire Château Brane Cantenac and became the major investor of Château Margaux.

In 1956,
François Lurton's son, Mr. Lucien Lurton, inherited Château Brane Cantenac.
The Lurton family was one of the most esteemed winemakers in the Bordeaux vineyards and François passed on 10 properties to his 10 children.

In 2011
the Chateau Brane-Cantenac devoted 18 hectares of its vineyard to organic farming. After several years of experimentation, the castle selected 6 French coopers for their qualitative aptitude: Seguin-Moreau, Taransaud, Nadalié, Demptos, Radoux and Boutes.

Chateau Brane Cantenac is famous for its location in the heart of the plateau of the town of Cantenac in the Medoc, its soil is composed of siliceous and deep clayey gravel that is also found at its neighbor Château Rauzan-Segla.
The grapes are harvested by hand, grape variety after grape, plot after plot, at an ideal maturity to preserve the fruit.

Chateau Brane-Cantenac produces two other wines:

Baron de Brane

Chateau Notton
