The first castle was built by Bishop François Foix-Candale in 1565. In the seventeenth century, the Duke of Epernon, Admiral of France and Governor of Guyenne, becomes the owner of Beychevelle, he is so powerful that all boats passing his domain have to lower their sails as a sign of allegiance.

On the emblem of Château de Beychevelle is a ship with a griffin bow. Jean Baptiste Poquelin known as Molière, was hosted in the Chateau Beychevelle by the second Duke of Epernon and plays with his friends, for the Duke.

By visiting the Chateau de Beychevelle we can see in the center of the main courtyard a large coniferous tree of more than 200 years old. Each year there is between 15 to 20,000 visitors.

In 1860, the owner of Beychevelle, Armand Heine, married in Louisiana USA to Marie-Amelie Kohn, a young american, once arrived in France she promises never to take a boat again. In order to remember her native Louisiana, her husband had a left wing built at the Chateau that his wife brought in a style reminiscent of her Louisiana.

In 1890, it was the Achille-Fould Family, of which Aymar Achille-Fould, was at the origin of the prestige of Chateau Beychevelle.

In the 1960s some people say that Beychevelle's wines lack body due to the early harvest, but in 1964, it rained heavily on the region and the result was catastrophic for the grapes remaining on the vines, against Beychelle with its Early harvest was a success for the

1964 vintage.
In 1986, Aymard Achille-Fould died and it is GMF and Suntory who bought the property. Today the Chateau Beychevelle is owned by Castel Group and the Japanese Suntory Group.
